Pond dipping and life cycles

29 Jun 2023

On Wednesday we had a visit from the Rivers to you project who came in to talk about the importance of the water system to many invertibrates.

We have been looking at how insects often start off in one form before going through a metamorphosis into something else.

First we began looking at the many different creatures living within the waters and used classifcation charts to identify them.

They brought their rivers simulator van which showed us about their work on the river Skell and their river table which showed us the ways we can prevent flooding.

Finally came the most exciting part, where we all went into Hackfall woods to see what we cound find in both the pond and the flowing streams nearby.

Here's a few of us in action

We had a great time and want to say a big thank you to Catherine and Mike who shared their expertise with us. We had lots of fun and learnt plenty about all the living things which dwell under our noses
