East Barnby 2022!!

30 Jun 2022

The time for our residential finally came and we all arrived with great enthusiasm. It took us about an 1:40 to get there and we wasted no time in unpacking, trading in our casual clothes for waterproofs and heading straight off for some beck scrambling.

This required a fair amount of team work to help one another over the great boulders, under them and even through them! I was a̶n̶n̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶l̶y̶  helpfully often told that teachers could fit through even the tightest of gaps so of course plenty of support (and hefty tugs) were needed.

Being the kind and supportive teacher that I am, I decided to not slide down the sheer rock face but take pictures of the moment they emerged from the depths below. Enjoy.

Once we'd dried off, there was a bit of 'dorm time' to relax and enjoy being in new and exciting places. It was wonderful to see everybody engaging as a class and all checking in on eachother, offering assistance and encouragement. Here we are at our dorms.

Wednesday morning was our canoeing expedition from upriver in the Esk, all the way down to Whitby harbour. We had to cross over a weir, pitch up on an island for lunch, pass under viaducts - we also had a lot of fun with the water. The fact we made it showed that once again, we'd worked effectively together, communicating and cooperating.

Back on dry land and at our dorms, we got to experience the dry slopes in the evening; the children went surfing down on sledges and soon became pros - unlike Mr Breckon who bellyflopped and retreated back to spectating

The last day came about all too soon but we did get to try out some bodyboarding.
