Summer term begins!

29 Apr 2022

Welcome back. I can hardly believe that here we are at the summer term again.

Class 4 have come back full of energy and enthusiasm as always.

We're brushing up on our grammar knowledge this week and next in English and so with all that concentration, we decided to make a board game in our spellings focus, which we'll be looking at next week - silent letters. The children are designing board games in a way which will improve your spelling recall of those tricky silent letters. We took a test to see which words to focus on and when I say tricky, some of the words on the list are 'Miscellaneous and fluorescent' - I hope nobody tests me on those! blush

In maths we're looking at the perimeter and area of shapes. We're familiar with how to find both of those but we were testing our deeper understanding by investigating true/false statements. Here we are looking at seeing if it is possible to find a rectangle which has equal area and perimeter.

Working hard to discover the solution.

We're very excited to be learning all about the ancient Maya in history. And like with all history topics, we began by sharing what we already know. Fortunately we've two members in our class who've already visited a Mayan temple and have plenty of information to share. We can't wait to discover more about them.

Here we are looking at where their civilisation fits into a historical time line.

We were surprised to learn that during the Maya period, British history was changing rapidly too, moving from the stone age, right through to Henry VIII.

Finally, we did some background research to set the scene about the Maya and make a fact file page from our research about who the Maya were, where they lived and what they were like.

And as it's the summer term, it inevitably means that our year 6's time here is drawing to a close crying

This year, they've got in there early with their leavers jumpers and what a bright, colourful bunch they are!

Have a lovely weekend.

Please wait
