Class 4 - Monday 6th July

04 Jul 2020

Good Morning Class 4

How are you all this morning? I hope you had a lovely weekend? smiley

We are doing your activities slightly differently this week. Each morning you will have activities that are based around mindfulness, then for the afternoon you will have projects as usual; this week they are based on celebrations.

I am at Fountains today, tomorrow and Wednesday so my replies to your emails may be a little slower than usual. Please still email me on class4@gfschools.co.uk though.

These are your mindfulness activities for this morning. You can do them in any order, and you may not have time to do them all so choose your favourite to do.

Positive thinking diary

There is a section on this sheet for you to fill in each day this week. I would like you to reflect on the day you have had, and write down something positive that has happened.

Colouring task

Colouring is wonderful for mindfulness. Try to focus on the present, and only what you're doing. I apppreciate not all of you will be able to print this out so you could always do drawing instead, or any colouring you may have at home.

Reflective activities

Here are a couple of activities for you to do that will help you reflect on your best qualities and what makes you happy.

You could print these off, or just record your responses in your exercise book or on a computer.

Outdoor activities

Have a look at the Woodland Trust website at the link below. Scroll down to activity 8 'Butterfly symmetry art' and activity 9 'ladybird potato stamps'. Have a go at one, or both of these activities today.

Reading task:

Reading is wonderful for Mindfulness. Therefore, I would still like you to read for 30 minutes each day.

Ideally, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy!

Learning project:

The focus for this week's project is 'celebration'.

Learning may focus on different types of celebrations that take place and who may celebrate them. It could look at how people celebrate different events differently in other parts of the world.

Choose one of these projects to start this afternoon. smiley

Planning a Celebration- It’s time to plan a celebration event of your choice. This could be a birthday party, an end of term party or anything else you wish to plan. You have £150 to spend and 25 guests will be attending. What will you spend the money on? You should plan the celebration: think about the location of the event, how will you decorate the venue, what will your guests eat and drink and how you will entertain your guests. You should detail the timings of the event and any timings for preparation.

 ● Time to Design- Can you imagine your perfect celebration outfit? What would it look like? What would it be made from? How comfortable would it need to be? You should design a costume for a celebration of your choice. Think about the patterns you would like to incorporate on your design and the cultural traditions.

 ● Birthdays around the World- Birthdays are celebrated differently in different countries. Write an information report detailing how birthdays are celebrated in the following countries: China, England, Spain, Italy and Mexico. Which country would you like to celebrate your birthday in based on your findings? Why?

 ● What’s the Same and what is Different? - Select a holiday/festival of your choice and research how different countries around the world celebrate this event. You could compare whether it is celebrated at the same time, the outfits people wear, the food eaten, etc. Make a video, poster or report of the things you have discovered.

 ● British Celebrations- In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day and Bonfire Night are just some of the celebrations that take place. Choose one celebration day and research how the celebration came to be. Using the information you have found, plot the events on a timeline and include dates, details and pictures/sketches. Now create a poster advertising the celebration day. This could be done on a computer programme of your choice or on paper.

Have a great day everyone.

Take care
