Class 4 - Thursday 4th June

03 Jun 2020

Good Morning Class 4

Hi everyone, it's Mrs Barker here. smiley It's fully me today and from now on as Mr Breckon is busy in school with the Year 6 children. From now on, the page will look different to how you're used to as Mr Breckon isn't adding to it or editing it. It will take a bit of getting used to, but hopefully we'll soon get the hang of how we each work and it'll work out well.

The first thing to remember is that if you have any questions or queries about anything I put on here then you can email me directly at class4@gfschools.co.uk
Equally, if you would like to share with me some of the work you have done, please email it to me. smiley

I think we need a joke! Here we go...

'What is brown, hairy and wears sunglasses?'

(Scroll to the bottom of the page for the answer. smiley)

These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time. yes

PE:

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:

We all know how important reading is, and so today I would like you to read for 30 minutes. In an ideal world, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy! smiley

Maths task:

For today's maths task please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:

https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login

I have set you an activity for today which is about measuring angles. Remember to go through the lesson before you do the questions. If you find it difficult, you can go back to the lesson and have another go at the questions. I will be checking how you're getting on as the day goes on.

Grammar task:

I have attached a link to two grammar activity sheets. There is one for each year group and so please choose the one which is appropriate to you. You can record the answers in an exercise book or on paper, and I will put the answers up tomorrow so that you can mark what you have done.

-Year 5 grammar 7.docx-

-Year 6 grammar 7.docx-

Writing task:

Today, I would like you to write a newspaper report on a sport or sporting event of your choice. It can be a real one or it could be one you've made up.

Think about what information you'll need to include, so for example, the 5 Ws (who, what, why, when and where). You might also want to include quotes from people who were there, and don't forget a catchy headline.

You could type this up, or you could handwrite it. I have attached a newspaper report outline if you would like to either type or handwrite onto it.

-newspaper article format 2.doc-

Being kind...

Please make an extra effort to make sure you do something lovely today. Why not do something nice for a sibling, parent or a friend?smiley It could be as simple as tidying up after them, or bringing them a drink.

Learning project:

The focus for this week's project is 'sport'.

The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about sports and games. Learning may focus on the history of sport, sporting-heroes, physical challenges and performances.

This afternoon, you can either complete the project you started yesterday or start a new one. smiley

Sport Genius - Research about sporting history and see how many different facts you can find out about sports from the past. Create your own sporting trivia quiz which you can test out on members of your household. Or you could place different sporting events from the last 100 years onto a timeline.

 ● Sporting Heroes - Select your favourite sporting star. Then you should draw a portrait of them in the style of the famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein using felt tip pens or paint - you may need to research him first! Please send me you creation so I can share them all.

 ● Name that Sport - You could create an orienteering map of your home/garden. At each location you will need to create a question relating to a sport e.g. Which sport has the most rules? The answers can then be recorded on an orienteering sheet. Can you create an answer that begins with the letter of the next location? You can test it out on a family member.

 ● Beat It! - Begin by measuring your resting heart rate by counting how many beats in a minute. Then carry out an exercise e.g. running, skipping, star jumps etc. for 3 minutes. Once you have completed this you should carry out a recovery activity e.g. walking or sitting and see how long it takes for your heart rate to go back to normal. Repeat this with different recovery exercises to see which is the most effective at getting your heart rate back to normal the quickest. Can you create a way of showing your results?

 ● Anyone Can Be a Champion! - This activity is all about exploring the diversity of sport. You should research the history of the Paralympics. Discuss why we have the Paralympics. You should create a poster which presents the importance of the Paralympics and the range of different sports there are.

That's it from me today. Remember you can send me any of the work you have done through the class email class4@gfschools.co.uk

Have a great day,

Mrs Barker smiley
