Making bridges

Welcome back -
We started back by applying some finishing touches to our landscapes now the paint's well and truly dried. Here's some of our finished pieces; I love the sense of perspective you gain while looking at them.

By Tuesday we were on to investigating structures, we looked at simple beam bridges and noted the pressure which is placed on the central beam, with a total weight of 40g before collapse
However, when an arch was added underneath, the bridge was capable of holding over 200g.
We've looked at several designs of bridges and are creating a Truss bridges. We first had to work on cutting skills, ensuring all lengths were of equal length and could join at right angles to ensure a square.
We are well on the way to making models of a Truss bridge which will support weight. We will test our designs then add further support where needed next week
