Christmas Fayre
13 Dec 2024
This week we have been learning about forces in our science. We already know that having a large surface area slows gravity down from our experiment last week, so we soon discovered that having a large surface area is also crucial for supporting weight on water if it is intended to float.
We put this to the test by dropping a 200g weight into water and observing how it sank immediately whereas when it was placed in a tub, it floated.
We were then tasked with designing a vessel which would support a 200g weight out of paper, with the extra challenge being whose group could support the most weight before the force of gravity was greater.
We then tested them out
The winning vessel could support 800g, which is very impressive for a few sheets of paper and a bit of tape.
We then held our long-anticipated Christmas Fayre. The children were given a £10 limit to spend on resources and prizes to entice customers to play their stalls. They arranged them all themselves and devised the rules. What an amazing job they did and they raised over £200! well done !
Oh, and the winning stall was..... The bowling stall, raising over £50
Next week is our last week before the Christmas holidays, so to spread some festive cheer, I've held off on the homework...
Have a lovely weekend
