Today we visited Murton Park to experience living as a Roman. We arrived as 'Celts' who had agreed to join the Roman army for a better life We weren't allowed in until we swore allegiance to the Roman Empire. The Centurion greeted us and opened the city gates We were kitted out in the Roman attire, complete with spear and shield and taught the basics of what being a Roman means. The only way to be a Roman was to commit to a 25 year service first, so we had to learn the necessary skills to defend and attack those pesky Celts. Some future Centurions in the making I think - yelling and giving orders came naturally to some... Attacking the barbarians After lunch, we looked at some other skills needed, such as to write and make candle pots for those long, dark nights we get up here!
We had a fantastic time reinforcing our knowledge of the Romans and living like one for the day. I still think we have some Celt sympathisers in amongst us, but the topic's not over yet.
