Buddhist monastery visit

13 Jun 2024

On Monday we visited a Buddhist Centre to develop our understanding of what it means to be a Buddhist. We split up into two groups, one having a tour and talk while the other group explored the grounds.

We were greeting by an ordained Monk

She took us into their meditation room where she explained the processes of meditation and their quest to find enlightenment

She explained about their beliefs, their religious artefacts and their rituals.

She also explained the story of the first Buddha, which means teacher. There are many Buddhas and there are many statues which represent them in different ways.

Afterwards, we had time to explore the centre and asks questions

In the afternoon, we toured the grounds and made some dream catchers, appreciating the quiet and peaceful setting we were in.

It was a very informative day, which we were very grateful to have had and we've taken away an understanding of how other people live in Britain, as well as a deeper understanding of one of the world's major religions. We'd also like to thank the Mukherjee Trust for their very generous contribution in enabling us to fund the transport to visit.

And in maths, to finish the week off, we've been brushing up on our fraction/decimal/percentages equivalents. We've been investigating why they're the same and then playing some matching games to embed this knowledge for speedy recall later.

Have a nice weekend
