Volume and Maya trading

09 May 2024

We've had another week of practical maths - this time testing the volume of containers, where we calculated the volume from finding out the dimensions and checking that it would hold the amount of liquid we'd calculated. Here we are checking and measuring to find out the capacity.

We've been wondering just what the Maya would have eaten; we've heard a lot about the Mexican cuisine so spent some time focusing on how farming was done in the Maya civilisation. We looked at some foods brought over from the Americas

We then mashed them all together to create guacamole.

We then enjoyed eating our creation while carrying out research on why farming was so important to the Maya. We know that they had created incredibly complex calendar systems to keep track of the best times to plant and harvest. They also needed to create enough food to eat, trade with and keep the Gods happy.
