Using OS Maps

20 Oct 2023

We've been brushing up our skills on subtraction, reinforcing place value understanding to subtract from numbers with differing lengths and dealing with those tricky zeros. We used the laptops to answer questions and check our fluency.

We have turned our attention to some geographical skills this week, using an atlas, compass points to locate cities within their regions as well as familiarising ourselves with the symbols found on an ordinance survery map.

To embed those symbol meanings, we played a few rounds of bingo and then studied our local area to see what features we have around us! Who knew we have so many campsites around us?!

Next week, we'll be looking at how to use 6-figure co-ordinates to locate information on a map. I think it's safe to say, we now know what these symbols mean and can name them all in 20 seconds (the current record) but can you?
