visit to Bolton Castle
22 Sep 2023
This week we got to visit Bolton Castle to learn all about the Tudors and how they lived over 500 years ago
As soon as we arrived, we met our Tudor chaperone, who insisted to feel Tudor, we have to dress like one, so here we are transforming into our Tudor selves...
We got to see a whole host of Tudor objects from the castle and experience Tudor pass-times and weaponry.
We learnt how all boys from noble families would have been taught how to fight in battle - you never know when you're going to be required to support during a battle. After all, the war of the roses lasted over thirty years while all the throne claimants challenged one another.
Surprisingly, (or not) class 4 looked quite ferocious during their spear drills and took quite well to wielding deadly weapons about. So, if homework's late next week.... I won't be asking any questions from now on
And continuing on the theme of deadly weapons, we found out about how a Tudor execution might have appeared. Here we are gathered in the court yard to witness the beheading of one of our own.
Luckily, she was pardoned at the last minute but it was quite surreal to think this is what would have happened to so many Tudors, including two of Henry VIII's wives!
We were released from our castle confinment after a day of being Tudors and had just about enough time to explore the maze before heading home after a fun-filled, action-packed day!
