Deforestation poem

03 Feb 2023

Class 4 have worked really hard on creating rich language to produce emotive poems, which they hope will urge the reader into considering the actions deforestation has on the environment.

Once finished, we drew some sketches of wildlife scenes which would accompany the poem, showing the beauty deforestation can destory.

We then used water colours to create a featureless background, drawing the eye to the wildlife in the centre

Here are our finished pieces

We also created some poems which at first appear shocking and unsympathetic to deforestation but if you read them from the bottom line first, you'll realise our true message

We then held a debate in geography to discuss issues that impact the environment, such as the use of fossil fuels. We decided that although it's easy to agree that the world shouldn't be using them, it's not practical to not at this moment. We each took a role card and thought about how that character would feel around issues around climate change. We tried to give our opinions in a respectful way and consider the challenges. We realised that relying on renewable energy would require mass infrastructure and would probably result in increased energy prices but agreed that this is something we could one day hope to have.

Here we are debating.
