Celtic Crafts

16 Sep 2022

This week we visited Lime Tree farm, which happens to have a Celtic-style roundhouse on its grounds - a replica of course but nevertheless, it was well worth a visit. Class 4 have been researching about the ways in which the ancient Celts would have lived in Britain in order to fully answer our history enquiry question "What impact did the Roman invasion have on Britain?'

We got a good feel for how they would have lived, worked, cooked and slept in there. We could see the fire circle in the middle, which would have been lit all the time as a means of heat, light and deterrent to animals.

We also worked with someone who showed us celtic crafts and how, despite not having access to modern machinery, they could still work with metal, fabric and other materials to create complex creations. We made rope by pulling fibres from flax plants and twisting them together.

We also looked at how the Celts would have made clothing from the animals around them.
