We've continued with our investigation on materials this week by looking at what thermal insulators and conductors meant. Once we knew, we considered why certain materials are used for their job.
We then thought about how you could insulate a takeout drink, as we observed that it loses around 20'c in the first minute or two if left uncovered. We chose from a range of materials to test out which would be the best by wrapping it over hot water and testing the temperature every few minutes.
We found that tinfoil was the best at keeping the temperature in better and that the sponge was the worst. We theorised that this was due to the air pockets within the sponge allowing extra escape holes for the temperature to escape from.
We're currently working on completing an episode of the Just-So stories, which explain how animals came by their odd features, such as how the camel got it's hump. We know that characterisation is key to plot of these stories. Here's one very tidy example of our first draft and edits.
In assembly we had some visitors come in to present some of our class members with a prize for a recent workshop. You may remember that we all took part in a fantastic religious workshop, which taught us about the history of the old testament, through a tableau (except these figures came to life to explain their place in the story).
Anyway, after this we were given quiz sheets where we had to answer some questions based on what we'd learnt.
Today they came back to school and here are the award winners for their quiz enteries.
Finally, last week was ended with us all wearing red and today we all wore yellow and blue to show our support with the Ukraine. The funds raised will help provide displaced families and people with vital resources.
