This week we were invited by the Rivers2u project to take part in an investigative research project to find out what lives within the river Skell. They have been gratned a lottery fund to clean up the river as currently it's too silty and has farm chemicals within it. We went river dipping to analyse what we found, identify it using invertibrate classifications and then release it.
We also toured Fountains Abbey an heard about it links to Henry VIII. We looked at the model how Fountains Abbey would have looked and couldn't believe the size difference. We know Henry VIII closed the monasteries down after he broke with Rome in order to marry Anne Boleyn but also because they were a powerful organisation who recognised the pope as the head and not him so with this and wanting their riches, he closed them down.
