York Visit

This week we've been busy thinking about how we can reduce our school's carbon footprint. It's an initiative that the school council are going to focus on. As part of this, the two year 6 school councilors visited Swinton Park, who try hard to reduce their footprint, and had a tour of some of the things they've been doing. We then gave a radio interview as part of a podcast about our school's ideas.

 And today it was brilliant to go on our first school trip in a long time; we visited Barley Hall in York, which is a Tudor house right in the heart of the city. But first we stopped off at a few points of interest. We looked at Merchants Hall for its Tudor architecture, then the Shambles for its narrow streets which were typical of Tudor England and finallt the site of some famous executions.
 


 

At Barley Hall, there we met two Tudors, who showed us around the house. They told us it must have belonged to a rich person due to its size; they had so much money that they could afford to have high ceilings rather than bedrooms above as their house was so large in groundsize. 

 

 
 

 
We heard stories about Tudor medicines and experienced eating in a banqueting hall.
 

 
And finally, a trip to York is not complete unless you come to see the majestic York Minster
