Japanese week

Pictures and news from this week and last - (sorry, I was moving house last week and missed the news update

)

Last week we experienced Japanese culture by taking part of a range of activities popular in Japan.

We looked at where Japan was on the map and discussed how it used to be an isolated and private nation, resulting in it having many unique customs.

One of their popular forms of music is drumming, but it's not just drumming; it's almost like martial arts combined with it.

We also looked at the custom of the koi-carp and its assocication with children. The Japanese believe that koi-carp possess many important characteristics, such as perseverance, patience and strength (when battling to swim upstream against all obstacles)

This is something that is encouraged in children, so on 'Children's Day' scholars make koi-carp flags to hoist into the air, which appear like they're swimming when the wind blows.
With this in mind, we made our own too. We also enjoyed trying green tea too

And finally, we've been learning about forces. The class was tasked with making a vessel which could support weights and last the longest period of time without sinking.
Things to bear in mind wear that it needed to have a large surface area to capture the most upthrust, be light yet support a weight.
The winners were Elijah and Hayden with this design. Well done
