Parliament workshop
17 Jun 2021
Yesterday we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet with staff at the House of Commons to explore the parliamentary system and meet with our local MP's secretary. We talked about the skills needed to make an effective MP and the work they do.
We also have been testing out the factors which affect forces. We made different-sized parachutes to find out which best slowed down the parachute. We learnt that the larger the parachute, the more air resistance it is able to have thus slowing it down.
We also used Newton Metres to find out the pull of gravity on objects and their weight.
In maths we've been working out the area of shapes; we know how to calculate the area but it was great to see the area to scale, working it by physically measuring the dimensions. Lots of careful measuring needed and decisions of how best to split the compound shape up in order to make the calculations easier.
Finally, in p.e we've been developing various athletic skills; this week it was the turn of the long jump. We practiced the take-off position and a run up in order to increase the power and length of the jump.
