18 Jun 2020
Good Morning Class 4
Happy Friday everyone! I'm sure you're all happy that it's Friday!
Thank you to all of you who sent me work through yesterday. I have really enjoyed reading it, and I will share it with you over the weekend.
I have a couple of jokes/ riddles for you today...these are thanks to a Year 5 in my class at Fountains, who sent them to me. Thanks Tom.
What do you put in a barrel to make it lighter?
What has a head and tail but no legs?
Joe rode into a town on Friday, then rode out two days later, on Friday. How?
What can go up a chimney down, but not down a chimney up?
Scroll to the bottom of the page for the answers.
Here are the answers to yesterday's grammar activities:
-Year 5 grammar 9 answers.docx-
-Year 6 grammar 9 answers.docx-
Have a look on the school news page of the website (the homepage) and look out for today's Collective Worship. There will be a fun activity for you to take part in.
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:
Nothing has changed here...I would still like you to read for 30 minutes! Ideally, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy!
Maths task:
Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:
https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login
I have set you an activity for today which is about metric conversion. Remember to go through the lesson before you do the questions. If you find it difficult, you can go back to the lesson and have another go at the questions. I will be checking how you're getting on as the day goes on.
Spelling task:
Please can you choose 5 words at random from the spelling list below. Please choose words that you can't already spell. I would like you to find out the meaning of these 5 words so that you fully understand them, and then I would like you to write a short tale or story that includes these 5 words. You need to use them in the correct context so that your tale/ story makes sense; it doesn't need to be long, one paragraph will do.
Please underline the 5 spellings (or write them in a different colour) and you could draw me a picture that links to the tale/story if you would like to. You can handwrite this, or you can type it up.
-Year 5 and 6 common exception words.doc-
Writing task:
Today I would like you to create a poster which will help younger children to learn about where the continents, countries and oceans of the world are.
Your poster should provide key facts that younger children can understand, and an imaginative layout/design to engage them. Make sure your poster is clear and easy to follow.
You can type this up or handwrite it, and it would be great if you could send it to me when you've done it, through the class email.
Being kind...
Do something really kind for one of your friends today...
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'around the world'.
The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about countries and cities around the world. Learning may focus on different cultures and traditions, famous landmarks, food and clothing.
This afternoon, you can either carry on with the project you started yesterday or you can start a new one.
● Flags of the World- Flags are a national symbol for all countries. Cultures use different symbols and colours on their flags which are meaningful to them and represent their history and people. I'd like you to pick 5 countries and investigate their flags. What symbols and colours have they used? Why are these significant to this country? Can you create a flag for the UK which you feel represents our culture, history and people?
● Tastes of the World- Children all around the world eat a variety of food and many of the foods we eat today are inspired by other countries. Can you research and make a dish from another country which you have not tried before? You could find a recipe, source the ingredients via an online shop and follow the recipe to create a dish for the whole family.
● International Games- As part of the London 2012 Olympics a variety of countries were asked to name a traditional game which represented their culture and traditions. You can see these at the link below. Can you research these games and take inspiration from them to design your own game. Think about how the game is played, how you win and what equipment is needed. Where possible, you should test your game and make any changes needed. Please can you present your game through writing and pictures. These could be handwritten or digital.

● From Birmingham to Johannesburg- Think about what it would be like to live in another country. Do you think your life would be the same or completely different? Use the following clip to compare living in Birmingham to Johannesburg. Can you show the similarities and differences between your life and Nwabisa’s life in South Africa. You may wish to show this in a Venn diagram, table or a poster.

● Exploring the World- Throughout history many people have explored new places. You can find out about some of them on the link below. You could pick an explorer from the list or one of your choice. You should map out the places that the explorer visited or you could create a piece of art inspired by the places they visited using digital images as support. You may wish to write a diary entry from the explorer’s point of view to share what they have seen and experienced.
