Class 4 - Tuesday 16th June
15 Jun 2020
Good Morning Class 4
How are you all? I hope you had a good day yesterday? The weather was lovely again...did it make you all dance like this? —>
I thought today it would be nice if you told me a joke! Think of your best joke and send it to me at the class email account class4@gfschools.co.uk. I will share the best few with you all. I'm looking forward to hearing them.
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:
Nothing has changed here...I would still like you to read for 30 minutes! Ideally, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy!
Maths task:
Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:

I have set you an activity for today, which is about Perimeter. Remember to go through the lesson before you do the questions. If you find it difficult, you can go back to the lesson and have another go at the questions. I will be checking how you're getting on as the day goes on.
Spelling task:
Today, I would like you to create your own city themed wordsearch.
You should begin by creating a grid, then add in the words you want people to find and then finally you should fill the gaps in with random letters. You can decide whether you give the person completing it the list of words to find, or not!
Writing task:
Today we are going to use BBC bitesize for your writing task. The activities are based on something which is very important for your writing, and something I talk a lot about in class - figurative language. This will give those you who may have forgotten what some of it is a reminder and a refresh.
Year 5, if you click on the link below it will take you to your work on imagery and figurative language in poetry.

Year 6, if any of you are using this then click on the link below to take you to work work on the language used in poetry.

Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'around the world'.
The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about countries and cities around the world. Learning may focus on different cultures and traditions, famous landmarks, food and clothing.
This afternoon, you can either carry on with the project you started yesterday or you can start a new one.
● Flags of the World- Flags are a national symbol for all countries. Cultures use different symbols and colours on their flags which are meaningful to them and represent their history and people. I'd like you to pick 5 countries and investigate their flags. What symbols and colours have they used? Why are these significant to this country? Can you create a flag for the UK which you feel represents our culture, history and people?
● Tastes of the World- Children all around the world eat a variety of food and many of the foods we eat today are inspired by other countries. Can you research and make a dish from another country which you have not tried before? You could find a recipe, source the ingredients via an online shop and follow the recipe to create a dish for the whole family.
● International Games- As part of the London 2012 Olympics a variety of countries were asked to name a traditional game which represented their culture and traditions. You can see these at the link below. Can you research these games and take inspiration from them to design your own game. Think about how the game is played, how you win and what equipment is needed. Where possible, you should test your game and make any changes needed. Please can you present your game through writing and pictures. These could be handwritten or digital.

● From Birmingham to Johannesburg- Think about what it would be like to live in another country. Do you think your life would be the same or completely different? Use the following clip to compare living in Birmingham to Johannesburg. Can you show the similarities and differences between your life and Nwabisa’s life in South Africa. You may wish to show this in a Venn diagram, table or a poster.

● Exploring the World- Throughout history many people have explored new places. You can find out about some of them on the link below. You could pick an explorer from the list or one of your choice. You should map out the places that the explorer visited or you could create a piece of art inspired by the places they visited using digital images as support. You may wish to write a diary entry from the explorer’s point of view to share what they have seen and experienced.

Have a great day. If it's sunny, make sure you get out in the fresh air.
