Did anybody guess the answer to my riddle yesterday?
'A word I know, six letters it contains, remove one letter and 12 remains, what is it?'
The answer is 'Dozens'. Well done if you got it right! I know that Thomas did.

I would still like you to read for 30 minutes please. Ideally, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy.

I have set you an activity for today which is about translation and relfection. Remember to go through the lesson before you do the questions. If you find it difficult, you can go back to the lesson and have another go at the questions. I will be checking how you're getting on as the day goes on.
Grammar task:
I have attached a link to two grammar activity sheets. There is one for each year group and so please choose the one which is appropriate to you. You can record the answers in your exercise book, and I will put the answers up tomorrow so that you can mark what you have done.

Writing task:
Today, please can you write me a poem about the rainforest. 
You can choose any type of poem to write, it can be: an acrostic, a kennings, a narrative or a haiku. If you would like to include rhyme you can do, but if not don't worry. Try to include some figurative language.
You could write about the climate, the animals, the appearance, the dangers or anything that is rainforest related.
Being kind...
I am leaving this on here as a reminder so that you don't forget to always make the effort to be kind. This could be done in a variety of ways, it could be: some kind words when they are needed; a drink or snack made for someone; tidying up; dishwasher emptying; a message to someone who might be feeling down; a hug (to someone in your household); or something else, whatever it is, it will be worth it to make someone else smile!
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'rainforests'.
The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about the world's rainforests. Learning may focus on the plants, animals and insects that inhabit the rainforest, food that originates there and weather patterns. It could look at plants and animals that can be found in the garden too.
This afternoon, you can either finish the project your started yesterday or start a new one.
● Deforestation: Destroying Animal Habitats and The Homes of Humans- Deforestation occurs in rainforests throughout the world. Trees are cut down on a huge scale, often to create space for grazing livestock or buildings. As part of this process, animal habitats and the homes of native people are often destroyed. Can you create a poster highlighting the impact of deforestation on both humans and animals. Can you think of possible solutions to some of these challenges and include these solutions on your posters.
● Welcome to The Jungle: Let Creativity Roar!- Henri Rousseau was a French painter from the 19th Century who created many paintings inspired by jungles and rainforests, although he never actually visited one. Can you explore facts about this famous painter and create a jungle/rainforest piece of artwork in his style. You could draw, paint or create a collage, depending on the resources you have available at home.
● Discovering Far off Lands- In the 16th century, Sir Walter Raleigh sailed the Atlantic Ocean in search of a place called El Dorado. His expedition took him to Guyana and his search led him to discover the country’s rainforest. 400 years on, a group of children have taken on the challenge to follow in Sir Walter’s footsteps in their own expedition to Guyana. You should watch the below clip and explore the others on the BBC Teach website. Can you plan your own expedition and consider what you would need to take with you. Alternatively, you could write a first-hand account of your time in the rainforest from the perspective of Sir Walter. Remember that Sir Walter would not have had access to the mod cons we do now.

● Rumble in The Jungle - Get that Heart Rate Going! - Can you increase your heart rate by challenging yourself and members of the family to mimic the actions of animals which inhabit rainforests. Actions could include: jumping over logs, ducking under branches, high knees through quicksand, running from a tiger etc. Can you record your heart rate (beats per minute) after each activity. Which activity increased your heart rate most?
● Deforestation: Our Climate and Our Planet- As well as impacting on animal habitats and native people, deforestation is also a major contributor towards climate change. Can you create an awareness leaflet about the effects of climate change on our planet and how deforestation is contributing towards this.
