Maths
Well done to those who managed to find a solution to the subtraction digits question yesterday. Here are some of the answers found.
Last day on addition and subtraction. Firstly, have a go at playing this game (it does need flash player) https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?a=activity11 and no calculators (unless that's a metaphor for your brain)
Now find page 21 in your packs. These are mixed addition and subtraction problems. They also have one or two steps so you'll need to read carefully to identify everything you have to do.
Group one either choose A or B (or both)
Group two please do column C
I'll post the answers up tomorrow morning

Disappointingly I only received 3 kenning poems via email/purple mash. I was hoping to make a booklet out of them. I do hope more than 3 people are doing the activities on this page as it does take quite some time to complete!
(If you didn't get around to it - perhaps you could do them today also)
Nevertheless here they are, see if you can work them out.

It's been a while probably since you've done any writing at length so I'd like us to work on our handwriting today. Download this poem, In Flanders Field. The poem is about the battlefields during World war 1 in Belguim.
On Friday is VE day and although this poem is about rememberance, it's all to do with war time experiences.
Download the poem and copy it out neatly and joined in your best handwriting. You can do this on lined paper or in your English books. It would be nice if you could decorate it with poppies, war medals, larks (birds) British flags or anything which comes to mind from the poem.

History
As we've done with the past two weeks, why not join the live history lesson on English heritage. This week it's all about castles. It is on Facebook remember so you'll need to ask your parents permission to use it. Here's the link https://www.facebook.com/pg/englishheritage/events/
It starts at 11:30 so be sure to find the link and log in before then so you don't miss the beginning.
I watched last week and I noticed lots of familiar names appear in the comments and I'm sure I heard Grewelthorpe get a shout out!

Log into Charanga Yumu. https://charanga.com/site/ Click on Assignments then Lvin’ on a prayer – Step 3
On the right hand side you will see the activities . Today click on the first activity ‘Listen and Appraise – Smoke on the Water’
Do you like the song?
What can you hear?
- How many singers? Are they male or female?
- What instruments can you hear?
- Do any of the instruments play solo (on their own)
- Is there a hook (a short catchy phrase/riff that we can’t stop singing; the main musical idea from the song that we remember.)
This is another Rock song. What makes it sound like rock music?
Play it again and listen for these style indicators:
- Heavily amplified guitar, bass, drums and keyboard
- Solo guitar playing.
- Catchy electric guitar riff.
- A heavy beat.
- Structure – Repeated patter of Intro, verse, verse, chorus, with a guitar solo.
Listen again and watch the line move across the coloured bar at the bottom of the screen. Think about the structure of the music. What do the different colours represent?
Now listen again to Livin’ on a Prayer.
What similarities or differences can you spot?

That's it for today,
