Group 1
We're continuing with negative numbers. Today we're going to focus more on finding the difference between two numbers. I've loaded a scale below to help you. Start on 5 and count back aloud until you're on -5. Notice that you do say '0' and that's important to remember.
What's the difference between -3 and 4?
Can you count back from 4 to -3?
Or maybe you'd prefer to count forward from -3 to 4.
Either option you'll end up with the same answer.
Try counting to see what the difference is. What did you get?
Use the scale below to double check.
You should find that you get the difference as 7.
What' the difference between -5 and -1?
It's easy once you remember which way you're going.
If the temperature is -6, what will it be if it got 4'c warmer?
Would it be -10'c or -2'c?
Bear in mind that it's getting warmer so think carefully which way it will move.

for Q13 - you can see the temperature on Sunday. It then tells you how much it has changed. So Sunday was -2'c and then the change the is +4'c. What will it now be on?
Q14 - You've been given the two temperatures on each day. You have to work out how much the temperature has changed between the two.
Afterwards play the 'Negative 3' board game again.

Look at this image below. Where do you think a place like that exists? Who would live there? Would you want to live there?
I wouldn't - not least for those stairs; can you imagine climbing those on a daily basis!
In your green books, you'll find that picture (hopefully on the 2nd page) Read the story that goes with it. Lucy seems edgy on her ascent to the house...
When she gets there, I'd like her to go in... I'd like you to write a short paragraph containing at least 5 relative clauses (punctuated) describing what she sees. Can you imagine the furniture there? The feeling within the rooms? Are they pristine rooms, or ancient and uncomfortable. What about the walls, are they furnished with paintings of ancestors who once lived there before. Are there any unusual objects which catch your eye. Maybe sounds also alert your attention.
Remember relative clauses give us a little more information about the noun before it and are joined with these words: which, whom, who, that and whose. You must use brackets, dashes or commas around them.
Here's my view of the house.
After some time, Lucy made it to the imposing front door, which had an iron knocker draped from it. The knocker was in the shape of a crow. As I lifted my hand to knock, the almighty door gave way. A thin beam of light spilled across the darkness and invited me in.
The hall sprawled the length of the house with an oak staircase, that led into the darkness of the second floor. I cautiously shuffled along the floor, which let off an ancient groan, as I continued to explore. Paintings, whom were of people not of this generation, watched me from every angle. A flickering candle, which must have only just been lit, danced in the dim room. Which way should I go I wondered. The stairs? along the coridor? The room on my left or the room on my right.
All was silent except for the cawing crows outside. One caught my attention as it peered in from the hazy, panelled window; it's eyes, which burnt red, were staring right at me.
You can do this in your green book next to the picture or on a computer. If you like, send it in to me via email or purple mash (I check them everyday so I'll see it)
Finally draw a picture either on the computer (like paint) or drawing of the room you imagined. Focus on any nouns you mentioned, like the old grandfather clock whirring in the background
