Maths
Group one – I hope you all got on ok with adding and subtracting fractions yesterday – here are the answers to mark them
Column B: 1) 8/10   2) 7/12   3) 8/12    4) 1 whole and 2/5 or 7/5  5) 1 whole and 1/3 or 4/3 then the first 5 subtracting Qs 13) 1/8   14) 1/10, 15) 3/6  16) 4/12   17)8/10 and the word problem 25) 7/8

Column C:   1) 5/6   2) 13/20    3)13/14      4)1 whole 7/15   5) 1 whole 7/12  then the first 5 subtracting Qs 9) 7/15    10) 7/12    11)1/10     12) 13/20     13) 5/6 and the two word problems 17) 4/15 and 18) 5/12

Today’s task – Complete the crossword on page 2 of your maths pack and then complete Page 5 ‘The alligator swamp’ – you have to find a way across by colouring in only the answers which give you an answer of 9. Some of them are based on percentages. Remember that percentages are out of 100. So if you want to find 1% you just divide it by 100. E.G what’s 1% of 20? Well, 20 ÷ 100 = is 0.2.
So if I know 1% I can find 2% or any really.

Don’t forget other short cuts like finding 10%. There’s ten 10%s in a whole so If I wanted to know 10%, I’d divide by ten. E.G what’s 10% of 20? Well, 20 ÷ 10 = 2

The first one, 12% of 75. Hmmm, 10% would be 7.5, right? (75 ÷ 10 = 7.5)
So that’s 10%, so I now just need to find what 2% is. Well, 1% is would be 0.75 (75 ÷ 100 = 0.75)
So 2% would be double that, so 0.75 + 0.75 = 1.5
And 1.5 + 7.5 = 9
Doh! I guess I’ve just spoilt one of the answers for you. Good luck, don’t get eaten!

Group two – Hope you all got on okay with your percentage questions; here are the answers:
Column C: 1) £2.40   2) 32p    3) 8.5cm     4) 30cm     5)55g      6)600g      7)9.9L     8)570ml      9)250      10) 35         11)20       12)52      13) 140      14) 40       15)240        16)480        17a) £15,150     b)£15,750     c) £16,125

Task: Complete page 4 word problems and then find your way across the ‘alligator swamp’ colour all answers which are 9

English:
Yesterday I asked you to look at the image of the boy peering through the fence. What strange goings on! Things are just going missing and he doesn’t seem to trust the neighbours. Why would things be going missing? What would someone want with them?

Task -  I would like you to write a short next chapter to this mystery story where the boy goes out again, without his parent’s knowledge to investigate and I’d like to know what else he might discover. What time of day will you set it? What will he notice? Where will he go? Don’t forget to think about his feelings and how that will affect his movements and decisions.
Here’s my idea:
Richard couldn’t sleep at all; no matter how hard he tried, he wondered what else might be going missing. Just then, the garden light flicked on illuminating it in its milky light. I leapt up out of bed, and peered through my blinds, taking care not to cause any movements and I saw a faint shadow scuttling around. It wasn’t the shadow of an animal; it was most definitely human like! Well I could lay here and wonder, or I could take the opportunity to find out more…
I knew I had to have a closer look. I had no time to get ready; I just grabbed my camera and reached the back door and took my first step outside. It was silent and dark. I squinted, trying to absorb any scrap of light. Filled with curiosity, I edged my way to the fence. The grass was icy cold on my bare feet and my palms were dripping in nerve-wrenching sweat. Scanning the garden for familiar objects, I noticed that something else was gone. The birdhouse on the tree was gone. I know it was there this evening.
After what felt like hours, I made it to the fence, to where my spying hole was. By now fear gripped me, what would I see? Did I really want to do this? Summoning every ounce of bravery, I leaned over and looked.
From within the darkness, I could make out the shadows I’d seen earlier but not enough to identify it. I needed a light source. What could generate the light I’d need? Finally, It clicked (excuse the pun) – my camera! I fumbled around for the flash switch and placed it in the hole. Taking one almighty breath, I clicked it and kaboom. The flash lit up the night sky and I ran. I ran back to the house, bolted the door and pressed review to see the image. What met my eyes filled me with horror; never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that…
To be continued…
Now I’d love to read your ideas so please type It up on the purple mash template https://www.purplemash.com/#app/tools/2pubextra/ihavefoundout
(p.s – please make sure it’s that template you choose as I can’t always view them properly)

There’s room for an image so please draw something which goes with your story; I will put my favourite on tomorrow.
Challenge: Can you include one semi-colon and one relative clause?
