Good morning class 4 laugh

As we talked about last week, I’m going to be suggesting work for us to do on our class page each day. Please try to keep up with these suggestions – I promise I won’t work you all too hard!

Time table
P.e – 9am start
Maths
English

P.E – Joe Wicks, a fitness expert, is leading live p.e lessons on his Youtube channel each day. Let’s all follow along with him by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6r99N3kXME&fbclid=IwAR2YYO8DSRkepnwzNTuksmbXDUcJg7WhYibGuz2HG4_bStk-37ipg4DWGMQ&app=desktop

Maths – Yesterday we did some fraction work. You can mark it by dividing the whole by the denominator and then multiplying by the numerator on a calculator. E.G 5/8 of 24 – I’d divide 24 by 8 and then multiply it by 5. How did you all get on?

Group one: Today we’re going to try these fractions in number problem form (page 3); it’s the same concept except you’ll have to work out what calculation to do to solve it. E.G There are 42 fish in a tank and 3/7 are goldfish.
  • How many are goldfish? 3/7 of 42 = 18
  • How many are NOT goldfish? 4/7 of 42 = 24
Make sure you read the question carefully to perform the right calculation needed. Please complete page three, and do column A/B or B/C depending on your confidence levels.

Group two
We’re doing ratio! (page 2) Do you remember doing that recently? Ratio is just like fractions. If I had apples and bananas in the ratio 3:4 that means I have 7 groups. 3 of them are apples and 4 of them bananas. If I said I have 56 pieces of fruit and you know there’s 7 groups. Then each group will be worth 8 (56 ÷ 7 = 8) so if 3 groups were apples then I have 24 apples and if 4 groups are bananas then I have 32.

Likewise, I can use what I know to work out other facts too. Let’s say this time the ratio of Leeds goals to Newcastle goals is 9:3 (true story) and Leeds has 36 goals. How could we work out what Newcastle’s goals were? Well, we know there’s 12 groups (9:3 ratio remember) and if 9 groups are worth 36 then one group must be worth 4 so if one group is worth 4 we know that Newcastle’s poor effort is worth 12 goals. See how I worked that out?

Use what you know to solve column B and C – answers will be posted tomorrow.

I’d recommend level 8 or higher.

English:
Pronouns. Pronouns are words which are used to replace repeating names or the noun. For example: Peter went to visit John but John wasn’t in until 2pm so Peter had to wait 15 minutes for John to return. Peter and John then went to the park.
We have repeated Peter and John so many times that it feels repetitive and so you’d use pronouns to avoid that.
Peter went to visit John but he wasn’t in until 2pm so Peter had to wait 15 minutes for him to return. They then went to the park.

Task -  Please read page 3 and complete on the sheet. For part two, what pronoun could you use to replace the underlined words, instead of saying ‘This workbook’ what other word could I use to refer to it. Go and get 'this workbook' and put 'this workbook' on the table. I could replace ‘this workbook’ with a pronoun.
Then, look at page four ‘possessive pronouns’ possessive means when you own something. Some pronouns can show possession like my pen or your rubber. But some don’t. Example - ‘me’ you can't show possession with me. Me pen doesn’t make sense.

Here are five pronouns:
You, their, we, they and his. Two are possessive and you could use to show that someone owns something, which two do you think?

I’d like you to complete page 4 by typing out parts one and two onto purple mash and then I can check your understanding 😊
Click https://www.purplemash.com/#app/tools/2pubextra/ihavefoundout (you’ll have to log in and then it should work) I know it’s on a strange format and it’ll look a bit random but it’s the best we have – why not draw an animal picture at the top too and I’ll upload my favourite image to tomorrow’s page.
P.S - Save it as pronouns in 'your work' and then I can find it easily

P.P.S - If you have problems logging in to Purple Mash as it is having issues with so many people trying to use it at once, then just complete on the sheet.

That’s it for today,
Mr Breckon.
