Swimming gala and Pump Room visit

A Breckon - 04 Oct 2019

This week the children have finalised their poems about the pharaoh's curse and we'll be displaying them just outside the office shortly, please call in to view them. Their purpose was to serve as a warning to potential tomb raiders about the dangers of the pyramid. They considered the impact of their words and have tried to use figurative language to maximise the feeling of danger.

On Wednesday the juniors attended the annual swimming gala at Ripon Baths and managed to qualify to move onto the final stage at Harrogate Hydro later in the year. Well done to those who went.

On Thursday we were very excited to be visiting the Royal Pump Room museum in Harrogate to see their fascinating collection of Egyptian artefacts. They told us about how a local ancient-Egypt enthusiast/amateur archaeologist donated his collections to them many years ago to care for. We were able to handle some and deduce their purpose and then look at some of the larger, precious items in the museum exhibit. Our favourite was most definitely the sarcophagus. Although it remains closed, theyhave  been able to scan and view the mummy inside; we enjoyed seeing the X-rays.
After lunch we investigated mummies further and went through the process using a life-sized doll. The children weren't shy to volunteer for the role of mummifier and enjoyed removing the most important organs and placing them in canopic jars. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Collins for joining us and taking on the role of tour guide during the museum visit.
