Cycling, hieroglyphics and more

A Breckon - 26 Sep 2019

What an action-packed week it's been! Class 4 have been considering the setting of the pyramids, and experimenting with figurative language. We tried to imagine the way our feelings might move if they were free to; it's helped turn sentences of 'he was scared' to 'fear surged through his veins', which we think makes for a more exciting read.

In maths we've been considering place value (including decimals) and how the impact place value has when rounding. Year 5 have been trying to solve some rounding puzzles where digits can be altered to create different matching answers.

We studied some images of what at first appeared to be Egyptian art but after a closer inspection, we thought it might be something more, and concluded it was writing. We then looked at the Egyptian hieroglyphics and practised scribing it in our art books, paying close attention to detail before using skewers and papyrus paper to write our hieroglyphic name in ink.

Finally, Wednesday was the day the UCI came past our village. We visited the route, which ran just outside of the school, and cheered on the contenders with flags and bells. I'm sure they'll have enjoyed cycling through such a beautiful place as we did seeing them.
