Class 3 Tuesday 23rd June

22 Jun 2020

Hi again everyone.

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday.

Thanks for all of the work you have been sending, I love seeing what you have been up to.

I hope you enjoyed the poem yesterday. Today's poem is one of my favourites - Chocolate cake.

This was a bit like me yesterday. Miss Blake put a chocolate cake in the staffroom and I couldn't resist it. I had one slice, then a bit more and then a bit more! I didn't eat it all but I think I had too much! I even did the trick with the knife that Michael Rosen did and tried cutting smaller and smaller pieces off hoping no-one would notice!

Click one the cake to hear the poem.

PE:

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Maths:

For your maths today I have set you a task on MyMaths looking at column addition. It is a tiny bit different to how we do it in school but it is very close. If they rename they put the digit at the bottom when we put it at the top but everything else is the same.yes

If you need a quick reminder about how to log on then click on the link below and it will take you back to Friday's webpage which has everything on that you need. yes

Reading task:

I would still like you to read for 30 minutes please. Ideally, I would like you to read your school reading book or a book that is similar in difficulty. However, if you choose to read something else then that's ok too. As long as you're reading, I'm happy. smiley

If anyone wants to send in a picture of them doing some "extreme reading" then please do. Just remember to tell an adult where you are planning to read so that we know you are safe.

Spellings:

Don't forget to keep working on your spellings too. yes

Writing Task:

The first job part of your writing topic is to watch a video - pretty good so far!

Have a look at the film below about aliens that help an inventor.

https://www.literacyshed.com/wingit.html

Today I would like you to imagine that some helpful aliens have given you an amazing idea for how to design a space ship to travel to new, alien worlds.

You will need to draw your design for your space craft and then label it and say what each part does in detail. You might want to think about what your space ship will need if you are in space for a long time. Maybe you will need a gym so your astonauts can stay fit, or maybe you want to have somewhere they can grow some fresh crops for food, or maybe you want to include a high-tech lab so they can take samples from alien planets and study them.

I have put an example below for you to see.

You could then say what each area is for:

6 - Workshop so that the crew can build and craft things to repair the space craft or help them on their mission.

8 - Infirmary - this is where my crew will go to be healed by super intelligent robot doctors that will stop them being ill or will help them if they get injured.

I can't wait to see what you will design and the great ideas you will come up with - the sky is the limit!

Collective Worship:

Today's collective worship is by Mrs Micklefield.

Topic work

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about space. Learning may focus on our Solar System, the Sun and the Moon. It could look at life in outer space from the view of an astronaut and travelling through space.

 ● Our Solar System- Encourage your child to think about what they already know about space and create a mind map. Can they name the planets in our solar system? Can they remember them in order or create their own mnemonic to help them? Ask your child to research the characteristics of the planets e.g What is it made of? What size is it? How close to the Sun is it? Temperature? Can they create a fact file, PowerPoint or Google Slide presentation on a planet of their choice? These facts about Mars or these facts about space may be a good starting point.

 ● Blast off!- Ask your child to design a new spacesuit suitable for an astronaut. They will need to consider which materials would be most suitable, comfort for the astronauts and the temperature in space. Encourage them to design a logo for the spacesuit too. Perhaps they could make this using materials from around the home?

 ● Astronaut Aerobics-  Astronauts have to be fit and agile for their missions to space. Ask your child to design a fitness workout to put your stamina to the test! Can you find your pulse and count your heart rate before and after exercising? Recommendation at least 2 hours of exercise a week.

 ● Out of this World- Ask your child if space travel was made more accessible and they could go on holiday to space, would they like to be the first space tourist? Can they think of arguments for and against being the first space tourist? Is it unethical for millionaires to spend their money on space tourism or should they spend all their money on reducing poverty? Ask them to prepare a speech about this discussion point.

 ● One Giant Leap for Mankind - Ask your child to find out about Neil Armstrong. Who was he and what challenges did he have to overcome during his life? Can they write a biography or create a piece of drama about Neil Armstrong’s life and achievements?

Have a great day,
