Collective Worship

Hello everyone and welcome to today's Collective Worship where will we be talking about changes and new beginnings.

I wonder how everyone is feeling today thinking about the end of the school term? I wonder how many people are getting excited about the school holidays and are looking forward to not having to get up early every morning and getting to have a lie-in instead ( I bet your teacher is! wink). Is anybody feeling anything different though? Maybe some of you might be feeling a little bit sad or nervous as it gets closer to the end of the year.

So far this week we have been thinking about how we will be moving on next year and how it is like a journey. When we go on a journey everyone will feel different about it. Some people might be scared and nervous, some people might excited and raring to go, and other people will be a mixture of the two. It is normal to feel nervous or worried about changes and new things but it can also be an exciting time full of new possibilites.

What sort of things do you think might be different for you at school next year? If you can,  tell a person near you what you think might change?

I bet you thought of lots of things, maybe a new classroom or a new teacher, new people to sit next to or new classmates. Every year though we get a little bit older and a little bit wiser and we are ready to try new things, and this is how we grow as a person. New things can be scary but they can be exciting and make our life much more fun. Have a look at the pictures below. Imagine if you had never been brave enough to try to learn any of these skills and how much you would have missed out on.

I bet there are lots of other skills that you have learned by being brave as well. Can you tell another person what new skills you have learned this year?

Maybe you were nervous about being in a play but afterwards you found out that you were great at acting and loved it. Maybe you sang in front of lots of people and were worried at first but now you love to perform. Changes can be scary but they can also be full of wonderful opportunities.

Below is a video from a film called "Prince Of Egypt" which is all about Moses. Moses had to go on a journey that he was worried about too, but he knew that he would find amazing new places, meet wonderful new people and get to try things he never even knew existed.

In the picture above Moses is surrounded by his friends and they all helped and supported each other. By helping and supporting each other in school we will make sure that we help everyone fit in to their new classrooms or schools, and that we all get to make the most of the new things coming our way.

Reflection Time:

What new things are you looking forward to next year?

Is there anything that you are worried about? (Maybe talking to a grown-up could help you.)

What could you do to help other people who might be worried or nervous?

Prayer

Dear God,
Thank you for the Year 6 children.
Please be with them as they leave this school and move on.
Please help them to keep hold of all their precious memories and friendships.
Please help them to make new friends and settle into their new school quickly.
Please be with them in both difficult and amazing times.
Please be close to all of us as we return to school.
Please help us to cope with the changes.
Please help us to be sensitive to others.
Please keep us safe.
Amen.

Thank you for reading our Collective Worship today, and I hope you have a wonderful day,
Mr Gamble.
