Thursday 7th May

06 May 2020

Good morning everyone!

Thank you very much for sending me your answers to the maths work from yesterday, I hope you had fun doing something a bit different. I've put the answers you have sent me in a slide show below.

Today we are going to be doing some activities based around VE day which happens tomorrow so it will be a bit different again today. It is important though to know why we are celebrating tomorrow and to know about the end of the second world war in Europe.

If you would like to begin with your PE as usual though, then just follow the link below.

 PE.

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go! There's a link to Joe Wicks or our Real PE units

VE Day

To begin with we will have a look at a video that tells us about VE day. Click on the link below.

There is also a PowerPoint that tells us a little bit about the second world war and why people were so happy that it had ended. People had enormous parties and were really happy when the war ended because it had been a scary and difficult time. I was talking to my neighbour yesterday, and she was about your age when the war ended. She said she was really happy because it meant that her dad would be coming home at last and she hadn't seen him for ages because he had been fighting in the war.

I've taken the main slides from the PowerPoint and put them in a slideshow, but if you can it works better as a PowerPoint.

  -Children in the war.pptx-

After looking at the PowerPoint I would like you to think about what it might have been like to have to been evacuated. We would have been really lucky where we are because we would have been  a long way away from any big cities and so we would have been safe. Some children weren't as lucky though. What do you think you or they might have taken with them?

Please record your answers on normal paper for this, although you could draw the suitcase too if you wanted.

During the PowerPoint and on the news we have heard lots about some of the countries that were involved in the war. There were lots of countries fighting all around the world, but we are going to have a look at the ones in Europe and where they are. Have a look at the maps below and see if you can work out where all of the countries are and see which ones you can find.

I've put a pdf on in case you wanted to print off but don't worry if you can't print, just have a look through and see if you know any (it sounds really strange but countries don't always stay the same! Some of the countries have different names now, and some don't exist and have become different countries!)

So far we have looked at some very serious things and it would be lovely to finish off with something fun.

Below I have put two activities for you to do.

  -Cup design pdf.pdf-

Don't worry if you can't recognise the people on the cup. The picture isn't very clear so it is very tricky!

For you last activity I have put some bunting designs for you to look at. If you want to use these to help you make your own bunting then feel free to, or as always, if you have your own designs then use your imagination and see what you can create (thanks very much to Mrs Goss for the templates. yes)
