Investigating plants

This week we have been looking at plants in more detail and we started by collecting some different ones to dissect. We explored the school grounds to find some that we could use and then took them back into the classroom.
Once inside, we used some scissors to cut the leaves back so we could see what was inside the flower head too. The children were amazed at what the inside of the flowers looked like, and couldn't believe that they'd never noticed these things before. We used a varity of plants so we could get a really good understanding of how they differed.
We are very lucky to have such great resources on our doorstep, and don't worry - we made sure that there were still lots of flowers left for the bees too.
