Work for Monday 30th March

29 Mar 2020

Hi Class 3!

Hope you are all safe and well and that you have had a good weekend. Here is the plan for the day...

9 am - PE with Joe Wicks.

Maths.

It is always good to go back and revise things we have studied before to make sure we don't forget them, and this morning we are going to revise area and perimeter. If you look below there are a couple of learning mats that will help you remember how to find the area and perimeter and also some useful language.

I'm sure you'll notice that perimeter is the distance around the shape, and that area is the amount of space a shape covers (or the space inside the shape).

Now that you have jogged your memory and are ready to go here is your task...

Using the square paper in your ORANGE book please design a theme park (or farm, or zoo, or sports complex - you get the idea) !
You will need to draw a shape neatly on your square paper and then count the squares to find the perimeter, and then count the squares inside the shape to find the area. I've put a couple of examples below for you to see. You'll notice that the units they use are big so you will need to think about m and not cm (a lion wouldn't be happy in an enclosure with an area of 10 square cm!). You might want to use a scale too so that one centimeter on your paper is 10m in real life.

For a an extra challenge think about using compound shapes, or even triangles or circles!

Have fun and I'd love to see your design. If you email them to the office with "FAO Mr Gamble" then they'll get passed on.

English/ art

Well done for completing your designs, your next task is to design a poster to people want to visit your attraction.  Using your writing book, please create an advert for your design. I've put two brochures below from Chester zoo and Flamingoland for you to look at. Remember to make it eye-catching with a colourful design, and to use some great language to make your place sounds exciting eg - not "it has some lions", but "at our park you can get up close to some "roarsome" lions and see our fantastic animals in an amazing specially designed enclosure".

Hope you enjoy today's work and have a great day.

Mr Gamble
