Home school ideas for Friday 10 th March .

Nicola Todd - 10 Mar 2023

Good morning class 1
I imagine you are all very excited to see the snow !!
I hope you have a lovely day and get to play outside and perhaps build a snowman ? We would love to see photos next week on Tapestry if Mummy or Daddy take any !
Here are some ideas for things you could do today .
We have been comparing heights and lengths this week in maths and using the language shorter , shortest , longer , longest , taller , tallest .We have looked at needing to line things up to compare them and have measured using little unifix bricks . Children could draw around their foot and cut out the shape to make a footprint . They could find things in the house ( or garden ) shorter or longer than their footprint . They could also use their footprint as a non - standard unit of measurement ( You could perhaps cut out plenty for them to use )  They could choose things to measure. For example their big teddy lying down is about 5 footprints . If they would like to, they could record what they have measured and write down how many footprints long it was ? If you have tape measures or rulers of any sort at home you could have a look together at how they work and let the children play with them to have a go at measuring things . You could help them make the link that the larger the number , the longer the item you are measuring so the longest item will have the biggest number !
For literacy , children could practice some letter formation, perhaps on the handwriting sheets Anna sent home or using a stick in the snow ? finger in shaving foam ? felt pens and paper ?
An idea for writing could be to pretend to be the giant in the story of Jim and The Beanstalk ( we have read the story this week a few times ) and write a thank you letter to Jim for the things he sorted out .
Eg , to thank him for the red wig or the sharp teeth or the glasses .
I hope you all have a lovely day and I look forward to sharing your photos next week when I'm in on Wednesday. I will also look at anything children send in that they have done at home today when I see them next week. These activities are suggestions - similar to what we would have been doing today in school.
Take care and have fun everyone!
😊
