CLASS 1 Wednesday 8th July

RHebblewhite - 07 Jul 2020

Wednesday 8th July

Good Morning Class One!
I hope you are having a lovely week.

It is Mr Gamble's Collective Worship today,
which you can find on Class 3's page.

This week we are having an:

ENRICHMENT WEEK

Our theme is:
MINDFULNESS

This week we have been thinking about what makes us special.
Let's start by seeing some of our friends and hearing what they have said makes their friends special. We would love to hear from you at home!

You are all special, Class One. Let's have another look and see
who's name is in my Friendship Jar today!

Mindfulness can mean lots of different things. At the start of the week we looked at ways of taking time to think about ourselves, our friends and families and how we are all special.

It can also mean slowing down to really notice what you're doing.
Being mindful is the opposite of rushing around and doing lots of things. When you are mindful, you are taking your time.
Mindfulness drawings
are a lovely way to relax and be thoughtful.  You also get a beautiful picture at the end! Follow our OneDrive link to some colouring sheets, or look at the pictures above and create your own 'Mindfulness' picture.

Here are some 'Mindfulness' exercises.
They are a bit different to 'normal' exercise. They help you to relax.

Would you like to do some Mindfulness Outdoor Maths?
Here are some little 'challenges' that you might like to
have a go at with a grown-up.
(download the cards from OneDrive)

Let's take some time to think about our feelings now,
as part of our 'Mindfulness' theme.

We talked a lot about things that make us happy - but what about things that make us sad? Everybody feels sad sometimes and it's a good idea to share these feelings with each other, because it can make us feel better.
Which things make you feel sad? How do you cheer yourself up?

Bodie's Treasured Memory Bags
Watch this story. It's called The Huge Bag of Worries.
Afterwards, imagine you have an invisible bag.
Tell your friend what's inside it and throw all those things out!
You could also draw a picture of your Big Bag of Worries and
share it with somebody. Did it make you feel better?
(You can find a bag template in OneDrive).

Now let's focus on our happy feelings!
Listening to music makes we happy and helps me to empy my 'huge bag of worries'. Here is one of my favourite 'happy' songs.
I think you're going to need to dance to this one!
It's called 'Can't Stop The Feeling' by The Trolls.

Mrs Watkinson, who was due to teach us Music at Fountains in Summer term has a music lesson that you might like to join in with!

Shall we share some more friendship sentences? Maybe you could talk to your class or your grown-up about some of the kind things your friend did today?

And to finish the day, here is an episode of Big Barn Farm.

Our Projects
Over the next few weeks we will be reflecting on our personal achievements this year and celebrating being able to see more of our family and friends once more. We will be looking to the future and to our new classes and Teachers.

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about Celebrations. Learning may focus and different types of celebrations that take place and who may celebrate them. It could look at how people celebrate different events differently in other parts of the world.
● Family Photographs
Look over a selection of photographs of family celebrations and discuss with your
child: what the celebration was about, who attended, what you did to celebrate, when it took place, whether it is an event that happens each year. Can your child remember the event taking place? What do they remember of it?
● Plan a family celebration-
Decide on a family celebration for the week. This could be a family picnic, meal, dance etc. Ask your child to write invitations to family members to the
party.
Create homemade decorations using coloured paper
(If you do not have coloured paper at home, you could
use old newspaper or wrapping paper) You could make
paper chains or bunting
Plan a menu for the party and make the food together.
● Discover religious celebrations-
Watch the Let’s Celebrate video collection for Easter. Discuss the celebrations with your child. Did they celebrate Easter? Which of the events did they take part in? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-easter
Watch the Let’s Celebrate video collection for Eid-al-Fitr. Discuss the celebrations
with your child. Did they celebrate Eid-al-Fitr? How did they celebrate? Are there any similarities and differences between the celebrations they saw in the Easter videos? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/lets-celebrate-eid
Look through the range of videos available on Cbeebies and watch together. Discuss who celebrates the event and any similarities and differences with celebrations your child has taken part in.
● Birthdays
Talk to your child about when they were born. Look at photographs of the day they were born, if you have them available. Do they know the date of their birthday? Support your child to create an all about me folding book (as pictured) with their birth
date, current age and anything else they think is important for people to know about them.

I hope you enjoy our Mindfulness Enrichment Week! Don't forget to send me your news, photos and videos for the Class Page! Have fun! Mrs Hebblewhite x
