Class 1 Tuesday 2nd June

RHebblewhite - 31 May 2020

 Tuesday 2nd June

Good Morning Class One! I hope you enjoyed yesterday's activities
and had a great start to the week?

If this is your 'first day back', you are now tuned in to Mrs Hebblewhite!!
Great to see you all!! If you need to get in touch, regarding any of the home-learning activities, please feel free to email me on:
class1@gfschools.co.uk

At the end of each week I will be showcasing the children's work from Class 1 at Fountains and Grewelthorpe, so please feel free to choose 3 pieces of work that your child has been especially proud of, or even a photo or video clip of a fun activity that your child would like to share with their friends!

Some of you will be back at school today for the first time today.
I hope you all have a lovely day! I am looking forward to sending you some video messages later this week on our class page!

School is going to be a bit different now,
but I know that we will still have lots of fun.
Here is a story about Hedgehog and Tortoise.
School is different for them now too, but they are still best friends!

Why don't you send you kiss across the room to your friend?!
See if they can catch it!

Each week I will be sharing a fun dance with you to practise. This week's is called 'Milkshake'.  Why don't you give it a go?

Phonics
Reception

Can you remember our 'ur' sound? It's our Sound of the Week! Let's watch the Alphablocks to practise! Join in and robot-talk the words! There is more than one way to write the 'ur' sound, but this week, we will just be concentrating on 'u-r' words.

Play a game with your grown-up
. Each time you hear your grown-up say an 'ur' word, clap your hands/jump up and down. Maybe you could go outside and play the game? You could throw a ball into a tub/shoot at a goal/run to the end of the garden each time!  Here are some examples: fur, turn, hurt, surf, turf, burn, burst.

Perhaps you would like to play a game on your tablet/ipad to practise your 'ur' sound?

On the Phonics Play website play 'Obb and Bob' to practise our 'ur' sound, which is a 'Phase 3' sound. Bob likes to eat real words and Obb likes to eat fake words! The website is free to use, with the username 'march20' and password, 'home'. Here are some instructions:

First, make sure you select 'go to new website', when prompted.
Click on: Obb and Bob
Click on: Phase 3
Select: set 1-7+ur.

You could also go back and practise set 1-7, plus any previous digraphs from the children's soundbook, that you feel they need to consolidate.

Nursery

Go on a letter hunt! Do you know which sound your name starts with? Why don't you make yourself some binoculars and go on a hunt to find all the things in your house that start with your sound? Maybe you could ask your grown-up to help you to find and cut out your letter from some old magazines?

Reception Maths

Can you remember our numbers and numerals to 20? Join in with this powerpoint, to practise counting from 10 to 20 and back from 20.

Can you tell your grown-up which number you will see next? For a challenge, ask your grown-up to choose a number and pause the powerpoint. Try saying one more/one less than that number or even two more/two less.

Play 'The Circles Game!'. While your grown-up counts to 20, you must draw as many circles as you can. Count your circles and write your score in the corner of your paper. Swap over and ask your grown-up to draw hexagons! Can they beat your score?!
Nursery Maths

Practise counting with your grown-up. Make a crown and be a Counting King or Counting Queen. Look all around your house. What can you count? Can you count the chairs, cushions, doors, windows, stairs, knives and forks at tea time?

If you are 4 years old, can you find and count three chairs, cushions...?
Draw a picture of your 4 favourite toys and ask your grown-up to write a number 4 for you to trace over. Perhaps you would prefer to use playdough or paint?

I have found a some fun yoga exercises for us to join in with this week. Yoga is very good for keeping fit and healthy.

This week's project
Every week, I will set a themed project. The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about sports and games. Learning may focus on the history of sport, sporting-heroes, physical challenges and performance.
Ball Games
● Play a game of catch with a ball - when you drop the ball, you lose a point. You could record points using a tally chart and count up who has the most points at the end. CHALLENGE: See if you can catch the ball standing further apart, catch with one hand or use a smaller ball.
Play Skittles
● If you have a set of skittles, you’re ready to go, if not you can make your own skittles using plastic bottles. Take a plastic bottle and partly fill with soil/ stones or sand to weigh it down. If you don’t have plastic bottles available you could use tin cans for an alternative version. Ask your child to count how many skittles there are to begin with. Roll the ball at the skittles and ask your child to count how many they have knocked over. Can they work out how many are left? CHALLENGE: You could write this out as a subtraction number sentence e.g. if you start with 5 skittles and knock over 2 your child would write 5 - 2. Ask them to count how many are left to find the answer 5 - 2 = 3

Competition Time
● Have a time challenge. Give your child an action to do e.g. hop, skip, jump, clap or star jump. how many can they do in one minute. Keep a record of the scores. Ask everyone in the house to have a go!
Parts of the Human Body
● Ask your child which parts of their body they use to run? To do a handstand? Draw the parts of the body and for a challenge ask them to label them using their phonics knowledge.
Create your own Junk Modelled Football Pitch
● Using a lid of a shoe box or similar container, help your child to cut out two holes on each end as the goals. If you have green card or paper, stick this in the base, if not you can colour in plain paper using a crayon. Draw out the marking on the pitch using crayons or felt tips. When finished, stand your football pitch on a box on the table. Using something ball-like (e.g. a sweet), take turns aiming at your partner’s goal whilst the other tries to save the goal. If you score you get to eat the sweet! CHALLENGE: Write instructions to play your game e.g. 1. Put the ball in. 2. Flick at the goal. 3. Eat the sweet!

Have fun Class One and remember to look after yourselves and each other!
Love from Mrs Hebblewhite, Fred the Ted, Boris and Croccy! xxx
