Good morning everyone! We hope you all had a great start to the week.
Please can you take a look at your Teams invitations for this week - Mrs Todd has added some reading slots with Mrs Wicks for Thursday and Friday morning, between 9.30 and 10.30. Children have been allocated 15 minute slots. If you're unable to make your child's time, just email us at mrstodd@gfschools.co.uk
Today's Tasks are as follows:
Phonics Reception - Practise robot-talking and writing 'igh' words.
Maths Reception - Comparing weights using 'coat hanger' scales.
Phonics Nursery - Make some 'n' labels and go on an 'n' hunt around your house.
Maths Nursery - Exploring weight using 'coat hanger' scales.
Join us at 9.00a.m. this morning for a live meet. The story today is 'Town Mouse And Country Mouse'. You can join me afterwards for a game of Bingo. Bring a piece of paper with 4 numbers on, between 1 and 10.
If you can't make storytime, click below to watch the story.
Activity for Reception and Nursery
I hope you enjoyed the story of Town Mouse and Country Mouse. Which home was most like yours? How are their homes the same or different to your home? Can you draw or paint a picture of your home? You could even use an old cereal packet to make a model of your house. Go around your house and count how many windows and doors you have. What colour are the bricks, roof, front door etc..?
Phonics Reception
We are going to learn a new sound today, 'oo'. This digraph can make two different sounds, a bit like how the 'th' digraph makes two sounds. Watch this short video to learn about this sound. Afterwards, use your whitboard to practise writing some of the words in the video, e.g. 'food' and 'book'.
Find the 'oo' sheet with the cuckoo picture in your pack, to stick into your Sound book.
Phonics Nursery
Our new 'sound of the week' is the 'n' sound.
Here is the video again for you to watch and join in with.
You could go on an 'n' hunt today. Can you find an 'n' word in every room of your house? You could ask your grown-up to write some 'n' labels for you to stick around the house.
One of our Nursery parents has very kindly forwarded a link she has found to some free resources on the 'Orchard Toys' website, where you can sign-up, download and print extra Maths and Phonics worksheets, if your child would like some extra work to get their teeth into! https://www.orchardtoys.com/dept/activity-sheets_d0129.htm
Maths Reception
Find and complete the sheet in your Maths pack, entitled 'Big and Small Lorries'.
Maths Reception and Nursery
We are learning about 'Weight' this week. This means how heavy or light something is.
We can use 'scales' to measure the weights of things.
Can you make some 'coat hanger' scales?
Find lots of different items to put into your scales and investigate their weight. Talk to your grown-up and practise using the words heavy/light, heavier/lighter, heaviest/lightest.
How will your scales tell you which side is heavier/lighter? Can you explain?
For a real challenge, (Reception) choose three items and use your scales to order them by weight - as you can only weigh two at a time, this is very tricky! Can you explain how you knew which order to put them in?
Keep up the good work everyone! Enjoy the rest of your day!
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us at mrstodd@gfschools.co.uk.
Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Todd and Mrs Hebblewhite xx
