Monday 22nd February
Good morning everyone! We hope you all had a fabulous half term!
Today's Tasks are as follows:
Phonics Reception - Practise robot-talking and writing 'igh' words.
Maths Reception - Comparing weights and using the language of weight.
Phonics Nursery - New sound of the week - 'n'
Maths Nursery - Comparing weights and using the language of weight.
Join us at 9.00a.m. this morning for a live meet, for some Show And Tell (Tell me about your favourite part of your half-term break).
The story today is 'The Hare and The Tortoise'.
Activity for Reception and Nursery
I hope you had a lovely half-term break, everyone. Can you draw or paint a picture of something you enjoyed doing during the break? You could draw yourself and your family in the picture. Reception, can you write the names of your family next to them? Or you could write a short sentence to say what is in your picture. Nursery, perhaps your grown-up could show you how to write your name on your picture.
Listen to the story today. Did you enjoy it? What was your favourite part?
I am glad the tortoise won the race! When you win a race, you sometimes win a medal. Could you make a medal? Perhaps you could cover it in tin foil, to make it look like real metal!
Phonics Reception
We are going to practise our 'igh' trigraph. Can you remember the action we make and the letters that make that sound? How many words can you think of that have that sound in them?
Watch this powerpoint video to practise reading 'igh' words. It is fast, so you will need to use the pause button. Click on the triangle play button - no need to sign in.
Can you robot-talk the 'igh' words below? You could write them in a phomeme frame or draw a picture and write a 'silly sentence'. For example, 'The light had a fight'.
Phonics Nursery
Our new 'sound of the week' is the 'n' sound.
Can you practise making that sound? Watch this video and join in.
Now that you have heard the song, can you make the sound 'n', imagine you are a pilot flying an aeroplane. Stretch your arms out wide! How many different ways can you fly around your room, making the 'n' sound?
Can you think of any words that start with an 'n' sound?
You could make and decorate your own paper aeroplane today, to help you practise your 'n' sound.
Maths Reception
Find and complete the sheet in your Maths pack, entitled 'Tub Sums'.
Maths Reception and Nursery
We are going to look at 'Weight' this week. This means how heavy or light something is.
Can you find something heavy and something light?
We are going to use our hands to do some weighing today.
Get a fruit, such as an apple and use your hands to find 3 things that you can pick up, which feel heavier than the apple. Then find 3 things that are lighter. Talk about your findings and try to use the words 'lightest/lighter, heaviest/heavier'. Reception, you could draw pictures in a simple table, to record your findings.
For an extra challenge, can you find something small that is heavier than an apple? e.g an ornament.
Can you find something big that is lighter than an apple? e.g.a screwed up piece of paper, a foam brick.
Which materials are usually heavy/light?
Keep up the good work everyone! Enjoy the rest of your day!
