Hello Class one .
I hope you could join me this morning to hear the story of how the Chinese calendar came to be ! What a sneaky little rat !!
We have learnt that each year is named after an animal and that this year is the year of the ox . The Chinese calendar is in the same order as the animals in the story came in the race . Click
here to listen to the story being read . The lady reading it is from America so her voice sounds a little bit different , but I think it is good to listen to different sounding voices .
Reception Phonics
Just to clarify , the tricky words we have covered so far are ;
was

no
go
I
the

The song this week included ;

you
These are the next set of tricky words we will cover . I hope that helps . I love the songs !! They are so catchy !!
Reception and Nursery
Draw a picture about the story of the animals racing across the river. Nursery , you could ask your grown up to write down what you would like to say about your picture.
Reception, you could write a caption or sentence about your picture . You might write ;
The ox swam fast .. or The rat was the winner or The rat is on the ox's back .... You decide !
Try to start each letter in the right place and remember those froggy fingers!!
Maths
To continue exploring pattern you could make some fruit kebabs . You might have some kebab sticks at home , or you could just place the fruit pieces in a row .
Choose some fruit you like , for example banana and grapes . Using the fruit slices or pieces, make a repeating pattern on your skewer. So you may have a kebab with fruit threaded on like this ;
banana , grape , banana , grape , banana ..... or you might want to make one like this;
banana , grape , grape , banana , grape , grape , banana , grape , grape ...... Saying the pattern as you go does help you to recognise what will come next .I hope you enjoy those lovely fruit kebabs !!
Reception could also find the sheet in your maths pack with the pictures of all the computers on. Can you complete it ?
I hope you have a lovely day . Have you tried any Chinese food ? Perhaps you could help your grown up chop some mushrooms for a stir fry ?
Love from Mrs Todd and Mrs Hebblewhite x
