Reception Phonics

Today we are going to play some games to practise our new sound 'ai'. The link below takes you to the 'Phonics Play' website, which is currently free to use, with the username Jan21 and password home.  

We're going to play 'Buried Treasure' - Here's how:

Type in the username and password above.
Scroll down the page to find the 'Buried Treasure' game and click on this.
Click on 'Start'/Phase 3
Where it says 'set 1-7', click on '+ai '

You could also go back and practise set 1-7, plus any previous digraphs from the children's soundbook, that you feel they need to consolidate. There are other games you can play too, such as 'Dragon's Den' and 'Picnic On Pluto'.


You might like to watch this 'Tricky Words' song and join in with the actions that go with our tricky word cards. 



 Reception might also like to complete the letter formation sheet for ' one armed robot letters ' in their phonics pack .
Phonics Nursery

You could also log onto Phonics Play ( as described above ) and play some phase 1 games . Have an explore . There is a fun sound descimination game involving animal noises which nursery have played with me .

Maths 
We are going to explore squares . Squares have 4 straight sides which are all the same length. They have 4 corners. 
Can you go on a shape hunt in your house to find some squares ?
You could record some that you find (reception )
Can you point to the side on a square shape ? Can you point to a corner? Can you count the sides and corners of a square shape that you find ?
You could cut out some squares from paper. Can you fold them in half in different ways ? Talk about what you learn .
Find the house sheet in your Maths pack and colour in the squares .
Why are the window sills and garage door not squares?

Fun Activity 
You could find some objects with square shaped faces to print with or cut out lots of squares and make a picture using them . 
You could fill a washing up bowl with some toy sea creatures and play with them.
