CLASS 1 Thursday 9th July
RHebblewhite - 08 Jul 2020
Thursday 9July
Good Morning Class One!
I hope you are having a lovely week.
It is Miss Barker's Collective Worship today,
which you can find on Class 4's page.
This week we are having an:
ENRICHMENT WEEK
Our theme is:
MINDFULNESS
This week we have talked about the different feelings that we have.
We have been thinking about things that make us happy
and things that make us sad.
Listening to music is something that can make
us feel happy, sad, relaxed, excited.
Listen to these three pieces of music and draw how they make you feel.
Imagine your pencil is the dancer! How would it be moving? fast or slowly?
Which piece of music was your favourite? Can you explain why?
(Tchaikovsky - None But The Lonely Hearts)
(Flight of the Bumblebee - Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov)
(Beethoven's 5th Symphony)
Some music can make you feel relaxed. Why not listen to these calm pieces of music, while you build or model with playdough
or even go and have a play?
How does the music make you feel?
Now that you've had a bit of a rest, let's do a teeny bit of Maths!
Would you like to join in with this song?
It is a great way to practise our 3D shape names!
Mindfulness can be about understanding our feelings - knowing what makes us happy, sad or angry and finding ways to stop feeling sad or angry.
Watch this clip from the film Inside Out.
Can you guess how Riley is feeling in each clip?
- How could Riley have cheered herself up, when she got angry and sad?
- What makes you sad or angry? How do you cheer yourself up?
Here is a nice activity that you could do at home or make at school
to take home. It's called a 'My Little Jar of Happiness'.
Talk to your teacher or your grown-up about things that make you happy, happy memories that you have had with your family and at school
and things you are good at.
Draw or write each happy thought on a small piece of paper.
Each time you feel sad or angry, take your jar off the shelf and
remind yourself of all the things that make you feel happy!
I think you've earned yourself a break!
Here is a fun exercise video for you to join in with!
Being outdoors in nature is a good way to relax.
I think it might be time to go outside and use our 'mindfulness skills'
....I hope it's not raining!
Go on a Scavenger Hunt in your garden or head to the woods.
Can you find these things? You could take a magnifying glass on your scavenger hunt to look closely at some of the things you find.
Look for patterns on leaves, flowers, spiders webs.
- brightly coloured wild flowers
- fluffy dandelion clocks
- nibbled leaves
- a soft feather
- spotty ladybirds
Do a Tiny Treasure Hunt!
Hunt for really small things you can fit into a small box.
Collect little leaves, blades of grass,
small snail shells, tiny twigs, and pebbles.
You could have a competition with your family,
to see who can fit the most items inside their box?
Shall we share the last of our friendship sentences? Maybe you could talk to your class or your grown-up about some of the kind things your friend did today?
And to finish the day, here is another episode of Big Barn Farm.
Our Projects
Over the next few weeks we will be reflecting on our personal achievements this year and celebrating being able to see more of our family and friends once more. We will be looking to the future and to our new classes and Teachers.
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about Celebrations. Learning may focus and different types of celebrations that take place and who may celebrate them. It could look at how people celebrate different events differently in other parts of the world.
● Family Photographs
Look over a selection of photographs of family celebrations and discuss with your
child: what the celebration was about, who attended, what you did to celebrate, when it took place, whether it is an event that happens each year. Can your child remember the event taking place? What do they remember of it?
● Plan a family celebration-
Decide on a family celebration for the week. This could be a family picnic, meal, dance etc. Ask your child to write invitations to family members to the
party.
Create homemade decorations using coloured paper
(If you do not have coloured paper at home, you could
use old newspaper or wrapping paper) You could make
paper chains or bunting
Plan a menu for the party and make the food together.
● Discover religious celebrations-
Watch the Let’s Celebrate video collection for Easter. Discuss the celebrations with your child. Did they celebrate Easter? Which of the events did they take part in? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-easter
Watch the Let’s Celebrate video collection for Eid-al-Fitr. Discuss the celebrations
with your child. Did they celebrate Eid-al-Fitr? How did they celebrate? Are there any similarities and differences between the celebrations they saw in the Easter videos? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/lets-celebrate-eid
Look through the range of videos available on Cbeebies and watch together. Discuss who celebrates the event and any similarities and differences with celebrations your child has taken part in.
● Birthdays
Talk to your child about when they were born. Look at photographs of the day they were born, if you have them available. Do they know the date of their birthday? Support your child to create an all about me folding book (as pictured) with their birth
date, current age and anything else they think is important for people to know about them.
I hope you enjoy our Mindfulness Enrichment Week! Don't forget to send me your news, photos and videos for the Class Page! Have fun! Mrs Hebblewhite x
