Class 2 - Week 5

Mrs Field - 04 Oct 2024

Class 2 have worked really hard again this week. We have introduced a new book in English, The Enchanted Wood, the first of the Magic Faraway Tree series. The children all seem to have enjoyed the story, please ask them what has happened so far. There are summary pictures added to the bottom of this post to jog their memories if needed.

In maths the year 1’s have been looking at partitioning and have been introduced to the part whole model. Please watch this video together if anyone needs any help with the homework that is based on this model, we will be using it a lot to help our understanding in maths this year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0blsv9r/numberblocks-series-3-fruit-salad

The year 2’s have been looking at counting using a number line – counting up to a point in intervals of ten and then adding ones to find mystery numbers. Please focus on writing numbers the correct way around in home work. For children who find the first sheet easy there is a second challenge (by choice) sheet that is an optional extra.

Miss Williamson has taken some pictures of the children reading this week – we are proud of how the children are getting to grips with the AR system in year 2. Plus, the Little Wandle sessions are now in full swing.
The phonics group have learnt 4 more graphemes this week:
ay (ai) – as in play
ou (ow) – as in cloud
ea (ee) – as in sea
oy (oi) – as in boy
These will be linked to the spelling practice the phonics group have brought home this week.

Well done for all your efforts with the spelling homework – I have added some super examples below if anyone is looking for examples of how the words can be written to aid learning.

Hope you all have a great weekend – see you next week.
