Bolton Castle

13 May 2022

Our Trip to Bolton Castle

On Monday we went to Bolton Castle. I was looking forward to it all weekend. When we got there I was amazed, the castle was huge! Would you like to go? Then we went in a great big hall and dressed up as people in the 1500s. I was a bit embarrased but when I saw everyone wearing the same thing as me I was fine.

Next we got to see Mary Queen of Scots. The boys had to bow and the girsl curtsy then four children got to ask her questions. She was very nice. Her clothes looked lovely and comfortable. Guess what? She spoke French. She also drank from a silver goblet and next to the goblets was a candle.

Then we went for a picnic lunch outside. When we went back into the great hall we met Master Davy who took us outside and gave us each long spears. We were being 'men at arms'. We marched around the courtyard while Master Davy banged the drum to keep us together.

After that we went back inside and a nice lady came and taught us to write our names with quill pens. Some of us got ink all over our hands! Then we were allowed to dressed up in helments, armour and even hold real swords.

Next we went up some windy stone stairs to the bedroom that Mary Queen of Scots actually stayed in.

Then we went to the very top of the castle, even higher than the roof, to the battlements. I was a bit scared but then I was fine. You could see a long way from up there.

Finally we did my favourite thing of all, the maze. We got trapped lots of times but we eventually found our way out!

There it was, my first time at Bolton Castle. I had the best time and I would love to go again.
