Good Morning Class 2
I hope that you have had a good weekend and that you are all well. Here are today's tasks. Remember, you can do them in any order and you don't have to do them all, if you don't have time.
For those of you who are in school today, I hope that you have lots of fun with Mrs Higginbotham.

Wake up and shake up! Start the day with some PE, or maybe have a PE session later in the day.

You might like to do one of these activities, or maybe go for a walk, run or do some cycling.
Reading:
Try to read a variety of books at home each day. Aim to spend at least twenty minutes reading. This can be reading a book aloud or sharing a book with an adult. It might be a book from your bookshelf, a book from school or an online text.
How about starting the day by seeing if you have any books about Rainforests?

Have a go at reading the story yourself, with the volume turned off, as well as listening to the story narrator.
Writing:
Grammar work today. We are going to think about verbs.

The tree frog, spider monkey and boa constrictor are just some of the animals that can be found living in a rainforest.
Can you make a list of verbs (action words) to describe how each animal moves. How many can you think of?
Challenge – adverbs describe how the verbs are happening: Slithering
smoothly or creeping
quietly.
Can you add an adverb to each of the verbs that you collected and create some sentences with them?
Phonics and Spelling:
The word rainforest has the ‘ai’ sound in it. Visit
Forest Phonics and select the button showing the ‘ai’ sound.
Then click on the snail to give you words to spell.

Please write the spellings that you were given on Thursday into your
spelling log.
Then, write three sentences, each with one or more of the words from your list.
Maths:

Year 1: Number bonds – Log onto MyMaths to find today’s task practicing number bonds.
Today, just work through the ‘Lesson’. Tomorrow you will be doing the Homework task.
Year 2: Number facts and doubles 2 – Log onto MyMaths to find today’s task practicing number facts and doubles.
Today click on ‘Lesson’ and work through the games and activities in sections 1 to 6.
Try to do something helpful for others.
Don’t forget to try to do something kind each day!

Mindfulness colouring:
If you enjoy colouring, here are some lovely pictures of the rainforest for you to colour, or to copy from your computer screen.

Where in the World are the Rainforests?
Using an atlas or online map, can you locate the continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America and South America) where rainforests can be found?

Sketch a Spider Monkey or a Tree Frog
Can you create a detailed sketch of an animal that inhabits the rainforest? Use pencils, crayons or any drawing tool you prefer.
Copy an image of a rainforest animal, thinking carefully about the patterns and tones.

Fascinating Forest Floor- Can you create a model replica of the forest floor?
Collect materials from the garden or if you go out for a walk.
What does the rainforest floor look like? Which animals and insects might be there?

There are many wonderful and intriguing sounds that can be heard in the rainforest.

Can you predict which animals the sounds have come from.

Many trees in the rainforest are chopped down to use for paper. Can you create a poster about saving and reusing paper at home?

A note for Parents,
Just to let you know in advance. On Friday, one of the suggested tasks is to find a simple recipe that uses chocolate and to follow the instructions to make it. It might be useful to know about this, to help with planning your shopping list! A chocolate bar would also be useful for the fractions work on Friday.
