Colour Run

12 Jul 2022

This term the children have been learning about the importance of equality and diversity in our local community and beyond, and have been exploring concepts of fairness, equality and diversity in line with the PSHE/RSE and Global Education learning goals.

The aim of this project is to promote equality and acceptance of cultural diversity to help to transform the world into a fairer, kinder, and more accepting place. These beliefs are aligned with our core values of friendshipkindness, and respect.

As the finale to the project the children will be taking part in a colour run on Wednesday 20th July from 1pm .

Class 2-4 children will follow a 1km route on footpaths around Grewelthorpe village, while Class 1 children will have a “Colour party” on the school field!

We need some adult volunteers to help to marshal the course and throw the colour powder at the children as they run past. We will need at least 12 volunteers, but the more the merrier!

Colour throwing volunteers and route marshals will be needed from 1pm until 2pm. If you can help then please email Hannah (hannahtagney@hotmail.com) to let us know!

After the run (at approximately 2.30pm) the children will be gathering on the school field to perform their inclusivity song “True Colours”, which they have also been learning the sign language to! We will be videoing the performance as well as parts of the colour run, and also plan to record the children singing the song so that the children will get the opportunity to star in their very own “Inclusivity & diversity” music video!

Parents are invited to come to watch the performance at 2.30pm on the school field, after which you can take your children home. All other children will be entertained on the school field or in the hall until the usual pick up time.

The children will be designing their own “Inclusivity t-shirts” to wear for the colour run, along with their usual PE kit shorts/bottoms.

The coloured powder is non-toxic, and biodegradable and is made from corn flour. It is non-staining (ish), but it is advisable to wear clothing/footwear that won’t mind having a few extra colours added to them after the event, just in case! Sun glasses are recommended to be worn for eye protection. For further information please refer to the FAQs on the company’s webpage: FAQs - Frequently asked Questions – Ministry of Colours
