Head Lice
20 Jan 2023
Dear Parents,
This message is being sent to all parents to let you know we have some cases of head lice in the school.
Please can we ask you to check your children's hair for headlice to ensure we don't have an outbreak across the school.
Head lice are common and are around at all times of the year. We would encourage all parents to check their children regularly:.
- Headlice are tiny insects that live in human hair and are particularly common in children
- They are grey-brown in colour, pinhead sized when newly- hatched and the size of a sesame seed when fully grown
- They cannot fly, jump or swim and they are spread by head-to-head contact, climbing from the hair of an infected person to the hair of someone else
- A head lice infestation is not the result of dirty hair or poor hygiene. All types of hair can be affected regardless of length or condition.
Please can all families check their child/childrens hair this weekend and treat appropriately- it is most important that instructions are followed correctly and that heads are
checked and re-checked at regular intervals as if only one little egg survives it will hatch in 7-10 days and the cycle will continue.
