Year 6- Crucial Crew afternoon
13 Oct 2022
Dear Year 6 Parents,
After a two year break due to Covid, the Year 6s have once again been invited to attend Crucial Crew- we will be going with Fountains School on the 22nd of November in the afternoon.
The children will be travelling by coach from school to Carlton Lodge Activity Centre, Carlton Miniott, Thirsk.
The Crucial Crew event is vital in encouraging good citizenship to assist in reducing accidents, injuries, anti-social behaviour and crime, as well as protecting young people through education and awareness. The event is designed to educate students in North Yorkshire to make informed decisions when faced with stressful, emotional, dangerous and/ or ‘risky’ situations. The event encourages active participation by all students and shows synchronicity between the Crucial Crew event and the schools citizenship curriculum (PSHE).
The children will be allocated a different workshop to start with and they then move around the site until they have attended all the workshop
The water safety workshop is outside so please ensure students wear coats.
Students will rotate around several 15-minute workshops staffed by key partner agencies to learn life skills including how to make 999 calls in an emergency, how to deal with peer pressure and/or stress. Students are informed about the consequences of actions and where we can seek help in these situations. We aim to include the following workshops but can be subject to change:
• Fire Safety - Keeping safe and making a 999 call, delivered by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (NYFRS)
• Water Safety - Keeping safe in and around water, delivered by North Yorkshire Youth Officers
• Drugs - Keeping safe and identifying dangers, delivered by North Yorkshire Youth Officers
• Prouder Communities - Awareness of differences to help prevent bullying and prejudice in relation to LGBT, gender, faith and culture, delivered by Barnardo’s
• Sexting – Keeping safe, crime and consequences, delivered by Police
• Alcohol – Crime and Consequences, delivered by Police
• Anxiety and Stress - Understanding and strategies to help individuals cope, delivered by Healthy Child Team

The cost to attend Crucial Crew together with the transport is £10. This will be payable via Parent Pay. Unfortunately if too few parents contribute to this, the children will not be able to attend this important workshop, so we would appreciate it if payments could be made before the 11th of November.
