Reading
16 Jan 2020
Dear Y4,5 and 6 Parents,
Recently we have tried a new initiative to encourage reading at home, whereby we'd like children to have read to an adult at least three times a week; it need only be for 10 minutes but we want them to continue to develop a love of reading, and have the opportunity to share and discuss their reading with others. Ideally this will be their reading book from school; we have invested a lot of money recently in upgrading the books, going by pupil voice but equally any reading is welcomed. We know that reading contributes to developing their creative thinking, expands their vocabulary and exposes them to new ideas and plots which they may draw on within class.
If children have read, we ask that you sign their diary with a brief comment as on Fridays their diaries will be checked and if signed three times within that week, will be able to add a marble to the class jar, which when the target number is met, they'll be rewarded with a whole-class break time extension.
We hope you'll support us with this idea.
Kind regards,
Mr Breckon
