School closure optional learning activities - class 2

08 Jan 2025

We are about to start our next chunk of learning in English on a story from a different culture.

Do you already know any stories that may originate from a culture that differs from your own?

Culture is the way each person lives, what they wear, what foods they eat, where they live, what language they speak and what they celebrate within their family. People can also have different cultures. The 10 minute video is an introduction to culture across the world.

In our next English lesson we will be looking at some of these stories from different cultures. If you have time while the school is closed please could you listen to one, two or all of them here:

An extra challenge could be to look at where these stories come from on a map.

If you have watched a film from another culture before can you draw a picture about some of the cultural differences between what happens in the film and what happens in your family culture. Think about the houses, music, food, clothes etc.
Some examples of films may be:
Moana (currently on bbc iplayer)
Coco (currently on bbc iplayer)
Paddington (where a bear enters to totally new culture currently on bbc iplayer)
Encanto

A final thing that you could watch or read (if you are not already familiar with it) is the Smeds and the Smoos (currently on I-player). Can you see any links from this story with what you have already learnt about culture?
