Art week

This week has been art week and we have focused on printing as our technique. 

We began by researching some well-known artists who have used printing to produce some of their most famous arts. Do you recognise either of these famous pieces of art?
 

 
 The children considered which style they preferred and compared their styles. Warhol, used screen prints to layer with colours. Picasso used geometric shapes and prints to create his. We researched about their lives and influences. 
 

 

 
With that in mind, we experimented with our own printing techniques.

 Then we started to layer our own Christmas-themed art pieces


  

 
  And when we weren't covering the classroom in paint, we were testing the laws of gravity by experimenting with ways to increase up thrust. We found out last week that the parachutes with the bigger surface area were most effective for slowing down a fallen object, so equipped with that knowledge we tested whether that would work with floating objects.
 

 
And sure enough, a 200g weight sank straight to the bottom of a water-filled tray, whereas when the same weight was placed in a plastic tub, it floated! This was because the weight had a larger surface area to accommodate it. We then used this knowledge to try and make a vessel which would carry and hold the 200g weight and more. It had to be fair so every group had the same variables (paper, resources, testing location and material)
